A Crazy Dream
BOOTS GULLY POPULATION 24 copyrigght Marnie Sheehan Mark Smith & David Sheehan 2018
I woke up this morning to a crazy dream, visited the strangest place that I have ever seen
Down in a lonesome gully oon a steep and narrow track, once I started drivin' there was no turning back
In a deep dark holler I got out of the car, saw a meat hook hangin' on a rusty iron bar
I shook and I shivered well where could this place be, saw a sign was hangin in the branches of a tree
Boots Gully Population 24 Boots Gully you won't believe what I saw
Everything was silent the bush was deadly still, birds they did not sing there was no light upon the hill
I went around the corner my heart was filled with fear, but the sight I saw made me grin from ear to ear
Boots Gully etc....
There was a party goin' on by a cottage on the hill, the paddocks were all lit up with a thousand daffodils
The tables were a laden they were groanin' with the weight, a bunch of smiling faces a feast on every plate
well I joined the merry throng til the sun was sinkin' low, and walked back down the road thinkin' I would homeward go
I saw my car was rusted with vines all overgrown, I'd been havin' so much fun I didn't notice time had flown
OH MY FRIEND
Oh my friend, you were the resting place of my soul for so long
Oh my friend, well your love was like a fire I might never, never feel again
This lesson is hard to swallow, nothin' left to do but to follow the road to the next home place
Put on a new face
Oh my friend, ain't it hard how love can turn against the truest heart
Oh my friend, its such a gamble but I never would believe that at the starty
This lesson is hard to swallow, nothin' left to do but to follow the road to the next home place
Put on a new face
Oh my friend, well the fog is closin' round me and I'm travelling blind
Oh my friend, well we had it good and we had it bad I hope for each of us there's something
left to find
This lesson is hard to swallow, nothin' left to do but to follow the road to the next home place
Put on a new face
HEAVY WEATHER
Heavy weather's come again, there is snow and winter rain
We're walkin' on thin ice, will it crack beneath the strain
What is the meaning of it all, just to easy to give in
We can stand or fall, heavy weather's come again
Well I run off the road to happiness, I must have missed a turn
And I'm out here lost in the woods they're about to burn
I'm bout to sink beneath the waves in an ocean of regret
People tell me you get saved but it hasn't happened yet
might be I need a little time though the hour is gettin' late
Should I leave you now or must I hesitate
Well I run off the road to happiness, I must have lost my way
And I'm searchin' through the fog for a brighter day
Heavy weather has come again, how long will it last
The cold and the biting pain, wait a while and it will pass
Heavy weather has come again, how long will it stay
I'm tryin to hold out for just one more day....

THI8 OLD HOUSE
I live in this old house for years it's sheltered me thru winds & storms & rain thru joy & misery
It stands and still remains it has not yet turned to dust the walls are cracked & stained & there's a little rust
When this old house was new windows gleaming in the sun it would shine a welcome light for travellers every one
But now that light is dimmed though a glow can still be seen thru the dusty window panes & the worn out front door screen
My thanks to this old house for serving me so well it has memories in store and countless tales to tell
I try to tend it with goodwill I pull the weeds, mow the lawn but time does not stand still and soon this house will be gone
I live in this old house its the only one I know at times it creaks & groans trembles when the cold wind blows
But its here I've made my home for as long as I can stay & I'll live in this old house til my spirit flies away
UNDYING LOVE
In the Pentland Hills outside of town that's where my love and I lay down
On a bed of leaves with the sky above he promised me undying love
But before too long his love began to cool, runnin' round town he played me for a fool
Every Jane every June every Julie and Jill took a ride with him to the Pentland Hills
In the Pentland Hills I put him down in a shallow grave he won't be found
On a bed of leaves with the sky above where is it now undying love
On a bed of leaves with the sky above he promised me undying love
Well who'se that yonder all covered in dirt raggedy pants and a bloodstained shirt
Headed into town by the light of the moon he won't lay down he's gonna be here soon
Banging on my door stumblin' round my deck he wants to get his hands around my neck
My screams light up the stars above he promised me undying love
THIS OLD HOUSE
I've lived in this old house for years its sheltered me thru wind and storms and rain thru joy and misery
It stands and still remains has not yet turned to dust the walls are cracked and stained and there's a little rust

I live in this old house its the only one I know at night it creaks and groans trembles when the cold winds blow

Dont want to get caught by a serial killer, dont want to get eaten up by Godzilla

Don’t want to die alone and blue, don’t want to die from missing you
Oooo Oo, I’m missin you, I’m missin’ you x 2

IN THE WIND copyright m Sheehan 2006
I know I know that you don’t want to see me no moreI know I know the word is out & that’s for sure
In this little town news goes around like an oilslick on a sandy shoreI heard it in the windI even heard it from the man next door
I know I know you been sayin certain things about meI know I know how the gossips smile & clap their hands with glee
In this little town news gets around around like a fire in a old dead treeI heard it in the windI even heard it from a honeybee
Well I heard it from the baker he was mixin up his doughI heard it from a butcher bird who heard it from a crow
Everybody seems to know just what you plan to doWhy haven’t I heard it from you
I know I know that you dont’ want to see me no moreI know I know my ears are burnin’ that’s for sure
In this little town news gets around, be someone else’s turn before longI heard it in the wind& now you’ve heard it in this song

PEACE & QUIET BLUES copyright m Sheehan 2006
I reached the time of life where I enjoy some peace & quietI reached the time of life where I enjoy some peace & quiet
I’m givin’ up cigarette smoking I’m on the liver cleansing diet
Well the signs of ageing they are a creeping up on me I got wrinkles I got dimples where there never used to be
Now all my friends have got arthritis, bad backs and dodgy livers too
& some are dearly departed from rockin’ pneumonia & boogie woogie fluI thought
I saw the devil out the corner of my eye
I’m wonderin’ is he come to get me or is he just passing by
I reached the time of life to treasure family & friends
And in the arms of my loved ones someday I hope my journey endsBut not, but not too soon
DOWN AT THE FISH SHOP copyright m Sheehan 2006
Down at the fish shop on a Friday night There was a large barramundi, bin there since SundayAnd next to him was a jewellian bream
And two delicious whiskery fishesAnd a crayfish with wobbly eyes and a shark
Down at the fish shop on a Friday nightSweating and smoking they were packed in tight
And two little whiting were screaming and fightingIn the winding queue they were black and blue
And one round potata said ‘I’ll see ya later’To the crayfish with wobbly eyes and the shark
Ay ay ay ay flip flop and fry
Down at the fish shop on a Friday night Shoulder to shoulder waiting for a bite
I’ll have a piece of flake and 2 potato cakesDon’t touch the scallops or else you’ll get a wallop
My stomach’s empty and the crayfish tempts methe crayfish with wobbly eyes and the shark
Ay ay ay ay flip flop and fry Piece of flake, potato cake and the crayfishWith wobbly eyes and the shark
