We've got 4 songs from 'A Crazy Dream' through to the next round of the ASA Song Comp, hoping some of these will get to the top 30. Have to wait and see.
We had the good fortune last year to be semi-finalists in the Blues & Roots Radio International Song Competition with our tune 'Oh My Friend' which is track 2 from A Crazy Dream. We are well pleased about that.
Reviews of the album are starting to appear, Pete Williams from Made in the Shade Radio says the album is "nothing short of magnificent" describing "dextrous playing and soulful vocals" and "rich hues of wonderful self penned tracks thart inhabit this broad canvas of a record". Forte Magazine describes a "unique and cultural album which perfectly epitomises Australian country with a mix of T Bone Burnett riffs" Very generous reviews we're grateful for such positive input.
Marni Sheehan and Mark Smith perform as a duo, as individual solo artists and when we can with assorted special guests. Our style is rootsy blues, alt & vintage country and originals with vocal harmonies and all kinds of guitars, acoustic, electric, dobro, national steel, lap steel and mandolin. Unfortunately the banjo was retired last year but we have now employed Stompy who manifests when the song is right. Audiences enjoy our act with its sparkle, variety and humour and the occasional Dark Moment. Covers range through Ry Cooder, Memphis Minnie, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, Dock Boggs, Townes van Zandt, Gillian Welch. Original tunes are stylistically in keeping with our covers repertoire.
Our new album 'A Crazy Dream' is out now. Its a collection of new original tunes and a few choice covers in the blues/roots and fingerpicking style. Check out a track from the new album on our music page. Big thanks to our pals in the Moonlighting Jug Band for this juke joint arrangement of the Deep Dark Troubled Waters, and to Greg O'Leary for some wonderful fiddle playing on track 1, Boots Gully Population 24. We have discovered house concerts a wonderful way to enjoy playing and listening to music. We would love to have you host us at your house concert in Victoria or further afield.
