MISSING YOU copyright
M
Sheehan 2006
Don't want to die in a burning car dont want to die in a bomb
in a bar
Dont want to die in the jaws of a shark or on a bench out in the
park
Dont want to die in a hospital bed dont want to die from a bullet
in the head
Dont want to die alone and blue don't want to die from missing
you
Dont want to get caught by a serial killer, dont want to get eaten
up by Godzilla
Dont want to get hung on a barbwire fence, don't want to die in
a pestilence
Don't want to die in a plummeting plane, dont want to die on a
subway train
Don't want to die alone and blue, don't want to die from missing
you
Oooo Oo, I'm missin you, I'm missin' you x 2
Don't want to die from lack of water, or because somebody else
thinks I oughta
Dont want to die in a fit of rage, or on a honky tonk stage
Dont want to die before my time & have 'em all say I was in
my prime
Dont want to die alone and blue, dont want to die from missing
you

IN THE WIND
copyright M
Sheehan 2006
I know I know that you don't want to see me no more
I know I know the word is out & that's for sure
In this little town news goes around like an oilslick on a sandy
shore
I heard it in the wind
I even heard it from the man next door
I know I know you been sayin certain things about me
I know I know how the gossips smile & clap their hands with
glee
In this little town news gets around around like a fire in a old
dead tree
I heard it in the wind
I even heard it from a honeybee
Well I heard it from the baker he was mixin up his dough
I heard it from a butcher bird who heard it from a crow
Everybody seems to know just what you plan to do
Why haven't I heard it from you
I know I know that you dont' want to see me no more
I know I know my ears are burnin' that's for sure
In this little town news gets around, be someone else's turn before
long
I heard it in the wind
& now you've heard it in this song |

MAMA WAS A GOODTIME
GIRL copyright M
Sheehan 2006
Mama was a goodtime girl
She'd turn up to a party drippin' with perfume
charm the pants off every single man in the room
show off her diamonds and pearls Mama was a goodtime girl
Mama was a goodtime girl
She liked to go out dancing, heaven knows
She liked to step out and step on people's toes
She lived her life in a whirl mama was a goodtime girl
Mama was a goodtime girl
Well she's down to the club every night of the week
Drink four or five whiskeys and bring home some freak
Round the living room they'd twirl Mama was a goodtime girl
I know she loved us but she didn't understand
She thought that to survive and feel real inside
She'd need a couple of drinks and a man
Mama was a goodtime girl
Sometimes she felt too tired to cook and clean
When we wanted her attention she could get real mean
She'd scream until it shook our world Mama was a goodtime girl
Mama was a goodtime girl
We had an uncle Boris and an Uncle Stan
Uncle Vince Uncle Kwame and Uncle Tran
She spread her love all over the world Mama was a goodtime girl |

PEACE & QUIET
BLUES copyright M
Sheehan 2006
I reached the time of life where I enjoy some peace & quiet
I reached the time of life where I enjoy some peace & quiet
I'm givin' up cigarette smoking I'm on the liver cleansing diet
Well the signs of ageing they are a creeping up on me
I got wrinkles I got dimples where there never used to be
Well I've become forgetful it happens several times a day
I'm doin crosswords for my memory, tell me what did I just say
Now all my friends have got arthritis, bad backs and dodgy livers
too
& some are dearly departed from rockin' pneumonia & boogie
woogie flu
I thought I saw the devil out the corner of my eye
I'm wonderin' is he come to get me or is he just passing by
I reached the time of life to treasure family & friends
And in the arms of my loved ones someday I hope my journey ends
But not, but not too soon |

DOWN AT THE FISH
SHOP copyright M
Sheehan 2006
Down at the fish shop on a Friday night
There was a large barramundi, bin there since Sunday
And next to him was a jewellian bream
And two delicious whiskery fishes
And a crayfish with wobbly eyes and a shark
Down at the fish shop on a Friday night
Sweating and smoking they were packed in tight
And two little whiting were screaming and fighting
In the winding queue they were black and blue
And one round potata said 'I'll see ya later'
To the crayfish with wobbly eyes and the shark
Ay ay ay ay flip flop and fry
Down at the fish shop on a Friday night
Shoulder to shoulder waiting for a bite
I'll have a piece of flake and 2 potato cakes
Don't touch the scallops or else you'll get a wallop
My stomach's empty and the crayfish tempts me
the crayfish with wobbly eyes and the shark
Ay ay ay ay flip flop and fry
Piece of flake, potato cake and the crayfish
With wobbly eyes and the shark |

NAUGHTY LITTLE
GIRL copyright M
Sheehan 2006
At the age of 4 the boy next door showed her dirty pictures on the
internet
to see what he could get
At the age of 8 she was stayin up late mum & dad didn't come
home for 3 days straight, tho she wait and wait
She's a naughty little girl, she's angry at the world
At the age of 12 she was helpin herself to the shelves of the supermarket,
Katy's and Target,
At the age of 16 on the Smith Street scene lookin pale and lean
with a man so mean he slapped her face to put her in her place
She'll spit in your eye she'd rather die than you should see her
cry
She gets off her face to cut back the pace and get some space from
the demons that scream in her dreams you know what they say, naughty
little girl
At the age of 20 she's done plenty of crime and she's done some
time
2 kids in care, sees 'em 4 times a year
She's getting sick of drugs, getting sick of thugs she'd like a
regular life, no more trouble and strife wouldn't that be nice
she doesn't understand why the law of the land won't take a stand
against the kind of creeps who make children lose sleep, mess up
their lives
At the age of 30 she feels like she's washed the dirt off her soul,
got a new lover who doesn't try to control her
But every now and then she thinks back to when she never had a friend
Or a single soul she could have told
And all that she could do just to make it thru was to fight with
everyone she know
And they would turn away she would hear them say every single day
Naughty little girl, she must be angry at the world

JUSTICE
copyright M
Sheehan 2006
O Justice can you hear me I feel like you have let me down
O justice are you nowhere to be found
O Justice are you listening have you taken a holiday
When this old world is so in need of you today
Where are you when we need you where are you when we need you
O Justice earth to justice I know that you're out there somewhere
Looks like we've lost you & sometimes it seems like no-one cares
Where are you when we need you
People sleepin' in their cars people fallin' down in bars
People who can't pay the rent folks whose hopes are almost spent
People livin' in fear & war & the wolf is at the door
& our time is running down won't you please come back
for one more round
I'm walkin' I'm walkin' I'm walking on down the road
& I'll keep walking until I see you & I know
& I'm talking about justice I'm talking to everyone I can
& I'll keep talking until I see you again |

MARK LATHAM BLUES
copyright M
Sheehan 2006
Came a lonesome rider from out of the west
And the sign of the chosen was tattooed on his chest
O Mark Latham within his soul a passion burned
And he could not imagine that passion would not be returned
Stepped up like a legend, pull the sword out from the stone
It only just began to move before his chance was blown
Oh Mark Latham the kingdom slipped out of his hands
Started out in Camelot ended up in the desert sands
Wrong side of the party, wrong side of the law
Wrong side of powerful men wrong side of a locked door
Oh Mark Latham he tried to get the holy grail
But the fates were against him he was bound to fail
Was he too wild too frisky, too lucky in love
Too big for his britches, all of the above
O Mark Latham was he unworthy of the crown
Or was he hoodooed & voodooed, hog tied backstabbed shot down
Well its not far to the border I heard Mark Latham say
Gonna pack my suitcase and make my getaway
O Mark Latham he made a journal of his woes
Be it fact or fiction I wonder if we'll ever know |

Well the lonesome blues came to my room last night
And they whispered in my ear 'til the morning light
Now everybody needs to believe in somethin' dear

TRUE HEARTS
copyright M
Sheehan 2006
Let me tell you all a story of true hearts that knew no fear
They were wild they were reckless, danger ever near
Stolen cars and broken windows, assault and robbery
When it came to drugs and money they just could not let it be
True hearts, better stay home by the fire when the day is done
On a dark & rainy evening it was in the winter cold
They set out to rob a traveller of his money & his gold
But the plan went wrong & ended with a body on the ground
As the sirens came a wailin true hearts were leavin town
Well they tore on down the highway, got a 100 miles from town
And they vowed to love eachother no matter what went down
But before they reached the border stood a roadblock straight ahead
With 100 guns awaitin to shoot those lovers dead
To the courthouse they were taken in the courthouse they were tried
From the courthouse they were parted wrenched from eachothers side
True hearts are true forever true hearts will never fall
But it's a long long wait for true hearts behind the prison wall |

RAMBLING ROSE
& THE GARDENER OF LOVE copyright
M Sheehan
2006
Well there was a ramblin' rose all alone on the hillside grew
down amongst the rocks and stones she was hidden away from view
each night she'd talk to the stars, and in to the heavens she'd
gaze
and that's the way it was for a thousand nights and days
Now a gardener of love came wanderin' through the land
looking for a favourite flower where he could tend his hand
to the hillside he chanced to go on a whim he did suppose
down amongst the rocks and stones he spied that ramblin' rose
o rose o ramblin' rose well won't you come with me
for you are the prettiest flower that ever I did see
get away get away she cried I cannot go with you
with your gardener's shears so sharp you'll wound and hurt me too
won't you put aside your fears the gardener did implore
and come away with me to my garden's golden shore
there's soil to feed your soul and to make you thrive and grow
and I'll always cherish you but the rose said I don't know
now the rose was full of doubt and she couldn't make up her mind
'cause the gardener looked so fit and his twinkling eyes were kind
with that he did reach out plucked the rose out of the ground
and her thorns they scratched him deep til the blood came trickling
down
well the rose fell in a faint out of shock and pure surprise
and she didn't believe the sight when she opened up her eyes
she was in a beautiful bed that felt like a natural home
in the arms of the gardener of love, at rest no more to roam |

SIGN OF RAIN
copyright M
Sheehan 2004
When you wake up in the mornin to a rosy sky some say that's a sign
of rain and you washed your car it was dusty and dry might be a
sign of rain
when you get a lowdown lonesome feelin' some say that's a sign of
rain when you see a huntsman crawlin' cross the ceiling might be
a sign of rain Oh for a sign of rain I want to see a sign of rain
a little rain's gonna cool my brain and wash us clean again send
us a sign of rain when a hush comes down & the clouds are low
some say that's a sign of rain and the ants get busy on the patio
might be a sign of rain when your bones they ache and your joints
they crack some say that's a sign of rain and the black cockatoos
are squawkin down the track might be a sign of rain rain rain rain
let it rain rain rain |

LITTLE RED BIRD
copyright M
Sheehan 2004
Come all ye here and gather round I'll tell a tale sad and profound
a tale that's true and was told to me it's a tale of loss and tragedy
on Pigeon Hill or so I'm told back in the days of the search for
gold there camped a miner with his only child in a place so bleak
in a place so wild he worked his mine all through the day and the
little girl whiled the hours away roamin' the hillsides til the
daylight's end and a little red bird was her only friend through
valleys deep and rocky springs the red bird led her she could hear
it sing in her scarlet coat that she loved to wear the child and
the bird made a handsome pair oh the little red bird one winter's
day the clouds rolled in thunder and lightning made an awful din
the wind it howled through the driving rain he called for the child
but he called in vain he searched all night til the break of day
in his darkest hour he stopped to pray all the gold in the world
I'd freely give if my sweet child would only live oh the little
red bird in the cold grey light of the early morn that miner cursed
the day that he was born he found her body on the cold wet ground
and the little red bird was hovering round he buried her there right
where she lay picked up his swag and he ran away to the end of the
earth to the end of the world he'd always mourn his little red bird
oh the little red bird now a lonely grave the place does mark and
if you go there before its dark and if you're silent and don't say
a word you just might see that little red bird oh the little red
bird |

M Sheehan 2004

to the shrink 'cause I was feelin' depressed here's the advice that
he gave to me 'lets try some cognitive behavioural therapy' think
happy thoughts to brighten up your day think happy thoughts to chase
your blues away my therqpist told me so it must be true he said
what I think affects what I do happy thoughts everything'll be ok
hey hey hey. He said try some pleasurable activities like diggin'
in the garden or shelling peas soaking in the bathtub paintin' your
nails or you can kick the cat if everything else fails, 20 k on
the exercise bike and if the Mormons call tell them to take a hike
I tried every strategy and lurk and guess what folks its startin'
to work think happy thoughts when you're feelin' blue think happy
thoughts tell your self its true you gotta cognitively restructure
events til you think misfortune's been heaven sent happy thoughts
you know they're gonna get you through hey hey hey. Well my husband

ways to improve my mood think happy thoughts to brighten up your
day think happy thoughts to chase your blues away my therqpist told
me so it must be true he said 'do what I say don't do what I do'
happy thoughts you know its gonna be ok hey hey hey I'm happy yeah |

DISAPPEARING
MAN copyright M
Sheehan 2004
I went down to the waterfront on the early shift I was lookin for
Bluey somebody said he skipped he used to be a big shot on the union
floor until he shot his mouth off he ain't around no more and nobody
wants to talk about it nobody wants to know about the disappearing
man I went down to the Union Hotel lookin for some clues ran into
my friend Shirley said is there any news? she just smiled and shook
her head looked down into her beer and she sighed if you don't know
nothin you got nothin to hide and nobody wants to talk about it
nobody wants to know about the disappearing man maybe he took a
holiday on some tropical isle maybe he's lyin' in the sun somewhere
wearing nothing but a great big smile I wouldn't like to imagine
he's in some sort of strife maybe he met another woman and nicked
off from his wife and nobody wants to talk about it nobody wants
to know about the disappearing man |
